Bad Mommy!

Well that was short lived. lol. On my lunch break at work i noticed the momma Nasuta's mouth didnt look nearly as full as the night before and kinda shrugged it off. But when i fed my fish as a always do at lunch she started eating the food and then to my surprise she spit out a mouth full of eggs. she rapidly picked them all back up but again spit. she did this about 4 times all the while other fish were picking the eggs off one by one. another female fish even picked several of them up and she spit them as well. I was able to salvage two eggs and have them in a breeder box with a low flow power head point through it from below in hopes that this make shift egg tumbler might save the two. There is little hope that this will work though. I will keep the forum posted. Lol.

Young moms often take a few rounds to get it right. But once they start spawning it will happen much more frequently, and she will learn to hold to term. If it continues to be a problem you can remove holding females from the main tank, but you will have less problems if youm leave them in as long as possible.

Young feather fins usually take a time or three to get it right. As with any lake tang cichlid that likes to live in groups I wouldn't suggest removing the females to a separate tank. If you want to raise the fry, what I do is strip and put the female right back into the main tank.
