Back in the hobby

Hi all,

When I was a teenager I had six or seven tanks going in the house, almost all cichlids. My kid brother and I had a 75 gal in which we kept big africans and later some big south american guys. We stuffed our tanks full of big messy fish with personality.

Fast forward 25 years. My 7-year-old decides he wants an aquarium. I haven't put one together in years, so i just go the easy route--I dig a HOB filter, a 15 gal tank, and some gravel out of the mothballs, and off we go. Then he (predictably) loses interest, and I somehow bump into...a Takashi Amano book.

That was a year ago. Now I have two planted tanks. One has been a labor of love/hate for the last six months. I put my woodworking skills to use and built a handmade cabinet and LED fixture for a rimless 57 gallon tank. I finally planted it a couple of months ago and it is now starting to fill out. The kids and my wife just love it--it surprises us anew every day. We had damselflies hatching out of it on Tuesday night.

I registered for this forum because I want to find some dwarf cichlids for this tank. The current occupants are otos, amanos, and a school of espey's rasboras. Anyone know where I can find some blue rams?

Hi Sam! Welcome to CCA! Your tank is coming along really nice. Someone on here should have some apistos. I think Prince has a pair or two of Panduro and Frank Cowherd might have rams.

Welcome back. I share a similar story. Having loved aquarium deep into my teenage years and then due to a growing social life lost interested in my late teen through my 20's. Back in it full swing 13 or so years later. Welcome to the hobby though I am a Africans man myself. It appears you're simpilized format and woodworking skills have guided you back in the right (fishy) direction. You aquarium looks great especially the night shot.

Welcome to the CCA forum. Your tank looks great. I like the way the wood and greenery blend together. The cichlids you are looking for should show up on this forum soon. Either as a response to your post or in the market place section. Give it a little time. Many members not online during Thanksgiving weekend.
