I am working on redoing my nano tank -- it is roughly a 6 gallon tank with an 11x11 footprint.
I have been trying to think what to put in it, and yesterday Sam suggested apisto borellii.
I have been doing some reading trying to learn about them and whether that would work well.
One specific question that came to mind is how fussy are they truly about having softer water, and how might I want to approach that?
Because I keep this tank in my office, keeping it relatively low maintenance is important to me. When I had it up previously, I'd do a weekly water change by siphoning into plastic gallon jugs, refill with tap water, add dechlor, done. I could do it in 5 minutes, no muss, no fuss.
The tap water here is 7.4ish and moderately hard which wouldn't be ideal for apistos. Is there a low maintenance way to fix it? I assume I could use an acid buffer? Or would the fish tolerate the tap water conditions, but perhaps with some impacts to breeding?
Any thoughts on that would be appreciated. And of course I'm happy to hear any other advice.
Thanks!
