An Oscar needs you like Macbeth needed a wife.

I had them when I was young. Cool fish actually. The have a tendancy to become pet like as they get older. Rearranging the tank, hating the heater....breaking them, etc.

Good luck. Take some pictures for use...please!

Nice fish to watch growout. But, my alltime least favorite fish to keep.

Sorry, it's a personal thing. As it usually turns out, not many folks can keep these guys anywhere near their full size. So, they end up being disposed.

In Florida, the irresponsible hobbyist decided to dump them in the ditches and canals near the Everglades. Because of the warm climate there, they succeeded to multiply... in numbers that are UNNATURAL to the natural environment. They have virtually devoured the forage that sustained the natural habitants for centuries... in just a couple decades.

As responsible fishkeepers, we have to evaluate the destination of our pets more carefully.

Actually I have had several Oscars and no fish relates to its owner like an Oscar. They become like puppies and will react to their owner in ways that are obviously different from the way they act toward strangers. It certainly could just be a feeding thing but no fish I have had is as exaggerated about it like an Oscar. You do need at least a 100 gallon tank to keep one properly. They are tank busters.

I have never had Oscars but everyone that keeps them loves them. I know several people that act like they are the child in the family..Like a dog..
One person I know was so upset when he lost his oscar after 12 years that he could not go to work for a few days.
Never had that much attachment to a fish my self but then again I have thousands of fish and do not have the chance to get that attached to one.

I happen to love Oscars!

Ah Yes, the old famous South American Astronotus Ocellatus, a great fish, especially when you're away on vacation and easy to to take care of.

As of right now I have 1 Gorgeous Red Oscar about 9 inches long and 1 Albino Red Tiger about the same size.

I also have a beautiful Red Tiger Oscar who is now over 9 inches and it only took him 6 - 7 months to get there.

And 1 smaller Red Oscar who is so smart, I mean even Joe Gibbs himself would say he was Super Smart! :)

There fun to have so enjoy, but right now I am crazy about my African Cichlids.

See ya!

I have a pair of wilds from Venezuela, but I was thinking of getting them a better home and someone more interested in the species.

I have friends who have Oscars. What color are the wilds? Might be a way to 'hook' them into CCA membership
