Any chance of a back-room tour of DC Zoo's Amazonia???

Was visiting the National Zoo yesterday with out-of-town guests and was amazed again at how wonderful the Amazonia display is. Not just the HUGE tanks of SA fish (including many cichlids), but also smaller tanks with a variety that included rummynose, black skirts and varieties of plecos. The tanks were so sparkling, I'd really like to know how they do it.

Any chanc we, as the Capital Cichlid Association, could wrange a back-stage tour, do you think? Anyone have contacts? It would be amazing!

I don't know anyone, but would definitely be pumped to check it out!

Same goes with the Baltimore Aquarium.

Anyone?

I don't know anyone at either the zoo or the Baltimore aquarium, but I would love to go on a tour if we could get that to happen.

We have a CCA member that volunteers at the exhibit. Maybe he'll respond to this thread as to his willingness to set something up.

I know that the National Aquarium in B'more hosts such tours.

Back in the day, our club hosted behind the scenes tours at the Columbus Zoo (in Ohio)... way cool... and we got to trade fish with them for fish from the endangered Victorian Hap breeding program!

Apparently the CCA member who volunteers there hasn't seen this thread . . . anyone have a name? I'm happy to pursue it even without an "inside contact" if folks would be interested . . .

This is a really most excellent idea..

Stellar actually - I'm in and willing to bring my NGO/Biologist credentials into play if it's of any use.
