Angels

well after one year of having two spawning pairs of Marble super viel Angels I was about to give up on ever having a succesful spawn. I did everything I could to save the eggs, moving the two pairs to seperate 20 gallon high tanks, then removing the eggs after I was sure they were done spawning. They have either eaten the eggs or the eggs were not feritle

Apparently the last time this pair spawned they laid eggs on both a piece of slate and the filter pick up tube. The ones on the tube were eaten with in 24 hours. Didn't even see the ones on the slate.

well today I turned on the lights and thought what in the world is all that white specs floating in the tank. Thought the angels ahd stirred up debris off the gravel. well I have finally had a succesful spawn.

don't applaude just yet. I ran to get the camera so I could upload photos of the fry swimming with mom and dad and gues what? As I am trying to get the photo dad is eating the fry.

I quickly turned off the lights and went away from the tank, no pic but figured ( hoped ) if I went away maybe some fry would survive. Haven't gone back to the tank yet keeping my fingers crossed that some survived.

will try to look again later today when I have a 2 gallon set up and if any survived I will transfer them to the smaller tank. If none did survive then at least I know the parents are fertile and the next time I see eggs on the slate I will remove it and hope for the best.

I've read that angels will be really good parents if they are kept in a tank with lots of driftwood and some plants, like val or swords. Lots of driftwood-so they can barely swim through. Haven't tried it yet-I always raise angels artificially.

If they are free swimming then remove the parents and start feeding them BBS. The parents dont do much once the fry are free swimming.
