Amatitlania is the new name for the "convicts"... and there are now four species (with a varient in each collection location, kinda like peacocks): nigrofasciatus, siquia, kanna and coatepeque. Honduran Red Points and some others are still not formally described
I have (among others) a breeding pair of the Amatitlania nigrofasciatus that are F1 of the ones that Ken Davis collected in Rio Choluteca, Honduras.
These guys are really different than any "convicts" that I've kept before. For one thing, they're pretty shy and relatively peaceful. Used to "convicts" banging the glass? Not these guys. Super productive? Not these guys. Mine only breed every few months....and probably only about 50 babies. Max size for the males seems to be about 4" and females much smaller (vs. 6+" for LFS convicts).
When they breed they turn dark grey with deep black stripes. The red on the female disappears and the male turns much darker.
Because each varient of "convict" (even within species) is unique, I keep them separate to maintain this and "pure" lines.
Anyway, here are some (really bad) pictures. The males the bigger one and the females the smaller one. The fish here are F2 offspring from my F1 pair.
I'm currently growing out F2 fry from these (Rio Choluteca), siquia "Lago Nicaragua" (which grows larger and has super orange/red breasted females) and siquia "Rio Claro Red Fin" (which is silvery blue with red fins)...
