Chew toys for fishes

Methinks might be good to try and tempt him with something to lavish his attentions on besides filter intakes, neh?

The quick and the bleeding

You probably don't like messing with house cats either.

And it is still just a baby. I hope you have a good-sized pond for when s/he grows up.

Lungfish technically don't have stomachs so they grind up and regurgitate their food in their mouths / throats. It's really cool to watch!

I started with my lungfish in a 6 foot cichlid community tank. He went into his own 75g after biting / disembowling a couple of fish. He then graduated into a 150g rubbermaid pond. The guy I gave him to dedicated a 240g to him (he was about 2 feet).

I'd like to try a SA lungfish someday. Really fascinating fish!

At 2' I would say he had already outgrown a 240. Jools and I came across the below specimen last year collecting in the Kazinga Channel (Uganda/Congo border).

Biologist or no, I'm thinking I should be worried for you.

That's a monster of a lungy, Shane! Did they eat it?

They're somewhat active fish but an 8'x2' tank is plenty big for a 2' one. They breathe air and are pretty tough with regard to withstanding poor water quality.

In the 150g tub, I did weekly 90% water changes using the drain in the bottom. Lenny (I don't name fish often, but mine got one) was a happy fish. I probably would have upgraded to a 300g rubbermaid tub eventually...
