Aggressive Father?

I have a cutteri breading pair. They only spawn 1 a year due to the fact that the male is so aggressive. Well, they just spawned again, and he is keeping the female away from the eggs. He isn't cleaning them, or keeping the snails off. Just protecting them with his life.

I was able to remove half of the eggs and put them in a basket with an air stone. I hope they survive.

Would it be better to remove the male in an attempt to give custody back to the female? My concern is that she has already become disassociated with them.

I have pulled fry and then reintroduced the fry to the parents with little to no repercussions. But if Dad is violent pull him. Our throw in diggers and they will protect fry together.

Or use a divider.

The male WILL kill the female if given a chance.

What size tank are they in?

Diggers? Do you mean Dithers?

I have a male Convict, 2 Tiger Barbs, and a Yoyo Loach that they kept out of their spot together. But after the eggs were laid, the male kept the female out as well.

Divider won't work. Its a 46 bow front.

Most of the eggs that I removed are looking good so far. The male is starting to be more gentle to the female. Next time I'll just remove the eggs all as soon as I see them.

I think so. I have a texas and a jack dempsey (currently with fry) who always fight. Believe it or not, the female always comes on top. If I where you I'd seperate the male.
