ABN fry

i just recently picked up a trio of ABN, the male being a longfin ABN and the 2 females being regular ABNs. about a week ago i no longer seen the male and looked in the breeding log that i have in the tank and found him tending to eggs. well today i spotted 2 fry out of the log sucking on the glass. i then removed the fry and put them in a floating breeder box that i keep in a tank at all times to build algae for my fry. as well as the algae in the box for them to eat i put some pre-saturated algae discs in the box with them. theres at least 40-50 fry and i know that by tomorrow morning (if not sooner) all the algae in the box will be gone. other then the algae discs i dont have any other type of pleco food (on hand) for them to eat.....WHAT SHOULD I DO????? any help is greatly appreciated as this is my first time breeding plecos. thanks in advance!!! pics attached

The young should be fine with the algae discs.

Depending on the genetics of the male, you will get all Long finned or 1/2 long finned. The long finned offspring will be carrying the normal finned gene, since the mother is normal finned.

I have a few hundred BN fry at just about any given time. As long as there isn't anything in the tank to eat them they don't need much attention. I feed all my fish once daily, NLS .5mm Grow or 1mm Cichlid pellets is the staple diet. Spirulina flake a couple times weekly, and occasionally canned green beans (french cut) for the BN and frozen bloodworms for the rest. Loads of Najas and duckweed in all the breeding/growout tanks to help maintain water quality.

FYI you don't need to separate ABN's fry from their parents. Adult ABN's won't harm the fry whatsoever. I have 3 generations of fry growing together with their parents.

the only thing in the tank with them, other then the parents, are my last six jack dempsey fry which are only about half inch long. i use NLS as well and frozen stuff about once a week and anytime i get a chance for live food i get it. but im trying to find some starter culture for some live food of my own since it so hard to get around here (york, pa) and even the NLS is hard to find here they only have the 1mm cichlid pellets nothing else. i use live plants in almost all of my tanks but still do weekly or better water changes on every tank. normally with my fry tanks i do twice weekly water changes. but my main concern was if they would b ok with just the algae discs since the number of plecos are so high in 1 tank there really wont be anything on the glass for them to eat

I buy NLS online in 5 lb buckets, most recently from yourfishstuff.com (in the sponsor section.) I breed super reds in a 30 long, also a couple hundred endler's livebearers, probably as many ramshorn snails, and 6 L-333's in that tank. There are usually 2-3 broods of various sized BN fry growing out. Certainly not enough of anything growing on the glass, wood, or any other surface so support that many, but they never starve to death.

I buy several buckets of each a year, as well as 2-3 pounds of spirulina flake about as often. With 11 tanks and many hundreds of fish to feed it's just not economical to buy smaller amounts more often.
Canned green beans are great, though you can also steam some frozen if you prefer. They sink on their own, and disappear completely overnight in my tanks.

I have 21 tanks and about 500 fish/shrimp. But dam several buckets? That's just crazy lol I only go thru about 1 of the large containers a month if that haha and ill stand at the tanks and feed for 10 mins straight I only spend about $30-40 on food every 6 months

My BN's what ever variant get anything and everything... samples, nls, flakes, waffers... raw shrimp, fresh veggies...

Really anything! I mix it up and they breed and are happy all the time!
