CCA Meeting 8 November 2003 Minutes

Meeting was held at 12751 Layhill Road, Silver Spring, Maryland 20906
Francine Bethea, President, opened the meeting for discussion at 1:15 pm

OLD BUSINESS:

No old business was discussed

NEW BUSINESS:

Calendar of Events: Francine provided a copy of upcoming events she has scheduled for the club.
January 2004 will be a Cichlid Workshop at Layhill:
Ron Nielson will talk about African and South American Cichlids
Joe Szelezi will talk about Discus
Ghazanfar Gohri will talk about Plants
And more
Francine has asked several vendors to donate items for a raffle and several well-known fish folks to donate fish for the workshop auction. A thread will be started to provide more information on the workshop. (Francine).
Other events during the calendar year are Cichlid Photography, a road trip to All Oddball Aquatics, Cichlid Environments and talks about all types of cichlids.
December 2003 will be a party at Joe Szelezi’s house. Ron Nielson recommended that we have a “White Elephant†gift exchange. This is where everyone brings a wrapped gift ($20 value or less, preferably fish related, gag gifts welcome); everyone draws a number; the person with number one gets and opens the first gift; the person with number two can either pick a new gift or take the gift from number one; number one then picks and opens another gift; then number three can either take a new gift or any gift that has already been taken; etc, etc, etc… Everyone seemed to like the idea. Pot luck is the food of choice. A thread will be started to discuss what to bring. (Joe)

The BIOTOPE: The next issue of the BIOTOPE will be distributed in December. Michelle McCoy has asked for articles from everyone. Ideas are as follows: “Off The Shelf†Product reviews, you all use them, please do a little write up about how you feel about them; “Mistakes I Madeâ€, you’ve all made them, tell others of your woes so they won’t make the same mistakes; “Tips ‘n Tricksâ€, if you have them share them; Any feature articles discussing a specific topic; Any photos you would like to share about any of the above mentioned areas.

Club Flyer: The president asked that the club flyer be changed to show the meeting being held at Layhill the second Saturday of every month and to not put in so much information, so as to keep the public wondering what it is we do at our meetings so they will be encouraged to come and see.

Fund Raisers: Pat Kelly asked if the club was going to have any fund raisers soon. It was decided that it wouldn’t be a good ideas to have a fund raiser just after Christmas, but better to try a little after January. No final decision was made for when to start a fund raiser. A thread could be started to discuss this topic. (Pat)

Membership: There are currently 18 paid members in the CCA. Unpaid members can use the forum (message board) until December 31, 2003.

The officer’s meeting was adjourned at 2:00 pm

A Raffle was held: Several donated items were won by members

A Presentation was given: Francine Bethea gave a presentation entitled “Dwarf Pikes†.

An Auction was conducted: Many fish were auctioned off at VERY CHEAP prices.
