If the topic is not "club personal" please use the public forum.

Meeting was opened for discussion at 2:00 pm by Ron Nielson, President

OLD BUSINESS:

Breeders Award Program: It was brought to the attention of the board members that members are trying to participate, but there seems to be a lack of official checkers. Only two people have had fry checked. The message board will be used to get checkers. Ron - ACTION

Club Newsletter: The title The Biotope was voted on and passed unanimously. Examples (created by Michele, Charlotte and Steve) of the newsletter were shown, club members selected the layout they preferred. Francine informed the newsletter team that there is required information that must be in the publication. These things will be added. The intent is to have the first edition of The Biotope published for the July meeting.
Charlotte requested articles from the following: ACTION for all
- EVERYONE: How DID I get started in the fish hobby?
- EVERYONE: Tips and Tricks – When reading articles/books and you see an interesting tidbit – write it down and reference where you read it, or provide your own.
- GERARD: Off the Shelf article - This will be an article about a product (filter, food, algae cleaner, etc…) and your personal opinion on how well it works or doesn’t.
- FRANCINE: Feature Fish article. She will provide a write up of the presentation she provided on Pike Cichlids.
- PAT: Do It Yourself – This will be a write up about fish room projects that you’ve done yourself. It will be used as an informative article to let others learn from what you have done. No need to let others learn from their own mistakes if we’ve already done it, it is our responsibility as fish keepers to help our fish friends out.
- CHARLOTTE: Write up on the April mini auction.
- DON: Write up about fish room tour.

- A motion was passed and seconded that Charlotte Nielson will be the “repository†person for the club newsletters and any other newsletters from other clubs under the article exchange program.

Auction in September: The club was asked if they wanted to conduct the auction and a yes was the response. The club has to look into getting liability insurance before they can have a public auction. Francine will look into how this is done and will inform the club President. Charlotte showed examples of advertisements that could be posted in appropriate locations. Once insurance is purchased, posters will be made and passed around for club members to post. Members are encouraged to create their own posters as long as they get them approved by the club President prior to posting. Francine - ACTION

NEW BUSINESS:

The current treasurer has resigned and the decision was made that the president will handle the finances until the elections in October.

Advertisement Flyers: Pat Kelly showed an example of a flyer that he designed. These will be printed, folded and provided to fish stores in the area and at the ACA in an effort to get new members. Pat will add information provided and post the flyer on the message board for board member approval. ACTION

Membership Cards: Tracey created membership cards for club members. These cards will get the bearer a 15% discount at Exotic Aquatics. Pat will ask other fish stores if they would be willing to do the same. The list of participating fish stores will be posted on the web site. ACTION

Web-based Message Board Forum: The president encourage members to use the board in a positive way, since this is how we will be able to get new members from our web site.
The Secretary will be using the forum to generate topics from the meetings for discussion and posting minutes. The Yahoo group email will no longer be used for this purpose.

PRESENTATION: Francine Bethea on Pike Cichlids
Very informative presentation was given. Article will appear in the July issue of The Biotope.
