I have 3 female captive-bred Dicrossus maculatus who are starting to mature. I was thinking of selling them, but wanted to gauge interest. These fish aren't cheap- wild caught usually go for $20-$30 a fish and are usually 90% male because the collection strategy seems to miss females almost...
I have 2 adult males available, $25 each.
I may have females available at a later date- I do have some fry I'm growing out.
I have not been able to upload photos of these two to the CCA site, but they are gorgeous fish. Two males will live peacefully in a tank that is 30" long or longer...
I wanted to gauge interest in some male D. maculatus I'm thinking of selling.
I bought these as juveniles at Aquamania from Jeff Rapps and he gave his best guess as to males and females. Unfortunately, some of my females have grown up to be males.
With shipping factored in, I paid about...
My little pair of orange chromides spawned under a piece of driftwood. They're in a 2'x2'x1' tank with some driftwood, PVC and plastic plants. They share the tank with some Myaka myaka and some goodeids.
I think the extra feeding and water changes during the government shut-down inspired...
Well I'll be... no sooner do I decide my female checkerboard is NOT a maculatus than the pair goes and spawns. My female is guarding eggs :D.
She's a little unprofessional about it, so I don't know if they'll last - as in "I'm guarding eggs, but oh, did you walk up to the tank, are we...
I'm beginning to strongly suspect that my female D.mac is actually a filamentosus... SIGH.
If anyone has a female swimming around that they're willing to part with, can you let me know what you want for her? Even if my girl is a maculatus, these guys supposedly breed better in harems anyway...
We got lucky enough to have this young pair of Paretroplus maculatus spawn the other day:
unfortunately, the eggs were gone on the third day.
Sure was a long time to hold my breath!
I've just done a stupid thing. I broke my own rule and bought fish I know almost nothing about. I've found very little info on Crenicara maculatus online. I know it's a S. American cichlid, is not the same as dicrossus maculatus or filimentosum, likes soft, acid water. Can anyone please tell...
