Amatitlania nigrofasciatus "Rio Choluteca" spawn

Amatitlania is the new name for the "convicts"... and there are now four species (with a varient in each collection location, kinda like peacocks): nigrofasciatus, siquia, kanna and coatepeque. Honduran Red Points and some others are still not formally described

I have (among others) a breeding pair of the Amatitlania nigrofasciatus that are F1 of the ones that Ken Davis collected in Rio Choluteca, Honduras.

These guys are really different than any "convicts" that I've kept before. For one thing, they're pretty shy and relatively peaceful. Used to "convicts" banging the glass? Not these guys. Super productive? Not these guys. Mine only breed every few months....and probably only about 50 babies. Max size for the males seems to be about 4" and females much smaller (vs. 6+" for LFS convicts).

When they breed they turn dark grey with deep black stripes. The red on the female disappears and the male turns much darker.

Because each varient of "convict" (even within species) is unique, I keep them separate to maintain this and "pure" lines.

Anyway, here are some (really bad) pictures. The males the bigger one and the females the smaller one. The fish here are F2 offspring from my F1 pair.

I'm currently growing out F2 fry from these (Rio Choluteca), siquia "Lago Nicaragua" (which grows larger and has super orange/red breasted females) and siquia "Rio Claro Red Fin" (which is silvery blue with red fins)...

Very nice, Matt. I really like these guys. I need to get a few more tanks set up and then keep my fingers crossed that you have some fry available.

Do you have any pics of the panama cons that you picked up from Rapps?

Only this (really bad) one. They're quite a bit larger and have sparkly blue dorsals now...

I love convicts. I think they are under rated. I have 2 black females that look a lot like yours but have blue cheeks. Probably crossed with something.

I've always had a special place in my heart (and fishroom) for medium sized central americans...

Anyone have a spare male Rio Danli (the blue ones) Honduran Red Point? I've got all ladies...

I picked up four of the small ones that they had at TFW a month or two ago. Not sure where they are from exactly, but they have a pretty good color. I'm thinking that I have two males, but not sure yet. If I have an extra, I will let you know. They are only around 1.5" now, so it may be a few months.

Cool - there are two varients of HRPs in the hobby (that I know about): Rio Danli (which is a metallic blue fish with red on the fins) and Rio Monga (which has a lot more red and less blue).

My ladies are Rio Danli.

Here are some old pics, including my breeder male (RIP)... He was a lunker at just over 3"(!)...and some ladies (which I still have)...

I really like blues in your ladies. The growouts I have are similar in color.

I also may have some leucistic HRP's (free swimming fry yesterday) if you want any of those. I know there was a thread last summer about whether they are really HRP's or pink cons. I don't claim to know the right answer, but the ones I have have blues and reds in their fins, and the female does not have the classic orange you see on the cons. I'll try to get some pics to post today.

I always called them white con's. I've seen another source call them platnium con's. I don't think they are pink going by the pic's I've seen of pink con's but who knows. Here's a pic of my male about 4", 2 yrs old.

I want some of these, it looks like someone crossed a white con with something else and called it a Lemon con. I have a soft spot for blue and/or yellow fish.
